"Zulmie has conducted several workshops for my program participants (high school students—TRiO Upward Bound Program) over the past four years.
Each workshop session was impactful and the students were able to express themselves and able to grow, heal and realize their “true” potential and most, of all, to recognize that they are enough.
As a result of the workshops, some of the students have begun to write poetry, journal and use their skills to assist others.
She has the ability to form an immediate rapport with students, she is a poet, but also a true educator."

Rotten Soup Reader Experiences
Below you will find reviews and testimonies from happy readers about how they experienced my written poetry work, Rotten Soup.
"Rotten Soup is an excellent read for anyone who seeks to read about the topics we avoid most and the questions we are sometimes afraid to ask ourselves. I truly appreciated Marie's (AKA Zulmie) transparency and authenticity from start to finish. The way she purposefully pieced together each poem allows the reader to really connect with the content in the book.
Marie creatively chose a unique title for each chapter, in that each title reflects the content of the poems in each chapter. In the chapter titled "Numb," Marie did a phenomenal job of delivering "truth poems" to her audience, or poems that get down to the "nitty gritty" about the numbness we often experience in healing from past traumas, hurt, and pain. I really enjoyed "Hid It Well," I felt the author's pain through her words and I resonated with her bravery to keep going and push through the pain. Although it was tough to choose my favorite poems in Rotten Soup, "Articulate Strings," "Father," and "A Women's Decree" are three of my favorite poems in the book. Each one of these poems spoke directly to me, in a different way and I reference these poems often.
I felt the author's passion in her writing; her dedication to speaking to women and other readers about her own past experiences is unmatched. It is clear that she wants her readers to gain the necessary gems and knowledge in Rotten Soup, so that they may hopefully not have to fall victim to situations that may otherwise "stunt their growth." It was so refreshing to read a book of poetry that was real, raw, and honest, from beginning to end.
After reading Rotten Soup, I am inspired and encouraged to continue speaking my own truths. Rotten Soup is a charge to own who you are and who you are becoming, without letting any part of your past define you or control you.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful words with all of your readers, you are appreciated. I look forward to reading many more of your books to come!"
